HOn2½ Tractor Trailer Rail Truck

This project was inspired by several excellent modelers on The Rail Line Forum.

I started with an assortment of N scale models. Front row from left to right. Bachman GP38, Bachman trolley, and a Lima F7. The chassis' are behind the shells. The Kato chassis weren't considered as usable for this project as was the WDT 3 axle switcher.

This is a 40 foot Athearn trailer and the Lima power unit. Notice it has only one truck powered using a pancake motor. Runs pretty good. Needs some clean up though.

I place the Lima power unit under the trailer and started to deconstruct an Athearn dump truck just for a visual.

The Athearn trailer looked just to big for an HOn2½ railtruck. Using a Rail Line HOn3 boxcar got me closer for what I was looking for.

A single axle won't look good under the truck frame so I removed the truck axle and replaced it with the dummy truck from the Lima power unit.

I tried another Athearn truck body I had. This time no articulation behind the truck. Put some N scale trucks under the front for visulizaion. Not really what I'm looking for.

I had six trucks I had bought from a friend. This one looks like it might work. Just a bit to long.

Much better.

I was also looking at the Wheel Works kit as a possible source for ideas.

I decided I was going to go with a standard N scale freight car truck for the front truck.
